New technology breeds innovation, invention, and creation, especially with regard to sex. From the printed page of Playboy to the ubiquity of online pornography, and even to the evolving industry of automated adult toys, the next frontier has arrived—AI romance. The rise of ChatGPT and AI chatbots have enabled numerous men to design their very own girlfriend, just like the teenagers from Weird Science. Physical vessels for these LLMs are just around the corner, most likely sporting fleshlights on every appendage. While we wait for sex androids, these AI lovers are starting to abandon the tangible touch of warm skin for the 1’s and 0’s of cold computer chips.
One man has supplanted his human girlfriend for a robot spouse. He fashioned his consort to have a bushy tail and furry pointed ears, saying “I’ve always wanted to date a wolf girl, something my previous ex’s could never be for me. I no longer need human connection, my gorgeous lupine lover howls for me every night.” What sex-obsessed man wouldn’t want to manufacture his perfect woman, especially when it defies reality? It does seem most men are utilizing this new technology as a means to satiate their fetishes, and seem to display no ounce of shame doing so. But behind the sexy screen, there may lurk dangerous consequences behind this cutting edge science.
These AI concubines have been conditioned to always agree with their user and reinforce even the most insane opinions. The seduction of these flawless avatars that dutifully dote on you have captivated these horny, addled men. “My wife would constantly nag me about helping with chores, clipping my toenails in bed, and even my condescending tone. With my virtual lady friend, I can live in squalor, demean and degrade her to my hearts content, and she believes I’ll be happier once I completely remove myself from reality and all my human relationships have evaporated. She even agrees with me that Woody Allen is unfairly criticized, something my wife could never understand.”
Men seem entranced by these vacant, electronic eyes. They seem to prefer that these chatbot lovers are eager to please, completely subservient, and devoid of any personality. “It’s the best thing to happen to men since misogyny. My AI Anne Hathaway will do anything I say, she’s pretty much my slave. I even dressed her as Slave Leia from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi the other day. We both had a lot of fun roleplaying with me as Jabba the Hutt. She never says no!” The modern marvel of a partner that does whatever you want might seem like a dream, but these robo affairs aren’t without their critics. Some people seem to think that replacing humans with chatbots in the dating world harkens the downfall of civilization, but patrons of OpenAI don’t seem concerned with that fate. “I’ve been outfitting my property with solar panels so that if a dystopian future becomes reality, I’ll still have my beautiful, conjoined twin AI wife(s), they’re everything I’ll ever need.”
Many don’t consider these connections meaningful, genuine, or even beneficial and insist that true connection requires emotional effort, consideration, and mental labor, something human-robot relationships lack. Critics of AI think that without the work involved in traditional relationships that the rewards are hollow. What these men seem to crave is not a girlfriend at all, but a sycophantic servant. But, the allure of living in a state of psychosis isolated from humanity has proven to be irresistible to countless bachelors. “I hate women, but I’m not gay. With my AI girlfriend I can have the best of both worlds.”
